While you do need to be more cautious than at home, there is no need to be overly paranoid. As long as you follow the advice given to you during your project orientation, you shouldn't run into trouble.
Language
There are 11 official languages in South Africa, but almost everyone speaks English. You don’t have to worry about attempting interesting “click words” unless you want to!

South Africa typically has a comfortable level of accomodation. The most common arrangement is in a shared room at a volunteer house or lodge. Volunteers can enjoy most creature comforts, including Wifi and laundry services.
