Volunteering in South Africa – An Experience of a Lifetime

My trip to South Africa truly changed my life. Ever since I was a little girl I had always wanted to work with animals. I’ve lived on a dairy farm, and worked at a zoo, but nothing had ever given me the experience that Wildlife Sanctuary project had given me during my time in South Africa.

Everyone always asks me to tell about my adventure but the only words I can get out are “It was a truly amazing, once in a lifetime trip.” Waking up in the morning or in the middle of the night hearing the lions roaring, truly made me feel like I was dreaming. I played with the 4 month old leopard cub like I would play with one of my kittens at home.

One of the most amazing parts was walking animals outside the sanctuary in their natural environment. There were elephant walks at 7 am, where you can walk right along the three elephants and take some breathtaking photos. I also loved walking the lions, and being able to walk right next to these amazing animals.

Another amazing part of my experience was being able to meet people from all around the world. It’s so interesting to learn about other people’s cultures and ways of life. My experience as a whole was truly one of a kind, and I look forward to visiting South Africa again!
