Volunteering in Thailand – An Unforgettable Adventure

I found the transfer coordinator rather quickly once I passed customs. Myself, along with 3 other participating members (and the transfer coordinator) began the almost 3 hour adventure to Singburi, where I would be teaching English at the Learn, Volunteer and Travel project. The first night was tough because I woke up around 4 am, as I still hadn’t adjusted to the time change.

Then, it was off to high school, where I would be teaching English alongside two of my best friends. We started off touring around the school, where we were greeted by smiling children who couldn’t stop waving at us.

Then it was off to the classroom where we put together our own lesson plans (none were given to us). We taught about 2-4 classes a day, depending on the day. Throughout the 10 days of teaching, we played games with the students, taught them songs, such as Twinkle Twinkle or Hokie Pokie, and had conversations about our lives here and in America. After every class, the students would ask to take pictures with us, which of course we did.

On Wednesdays, everyone had a half day from there programs, so we went to the pool for 3 hours (the pool was extremely nice!). On Thursdays, we were brought to the local Tesco (supermarket) where they had a Dairy Queen and KFC. On the weekends, we we allowed to do whatever we wanted (go to the pool, go to Bangkok). My friends and I chose to go to Bangkok. The organization schedules a minivan that we all take together to and from Bangkok. It was amazing to experience Bangkok.

The two weeks went by extremely fast and it was soon time to leave. I was extremely happy with the trip and enjoyed everything. I met so many people from all over the world (Dubai, England, Holland) and had great conversations with the local high school students. I would do it all over again if I had the choice!
