Program Schedule:
  • Arrival Day, Sunday: Volunteers should arrive at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (VNS) by Sunday. Upon arrival, volunteers will be picked up and transferred to their accommodation. An orientation will be held in the evening, providing an overview of the program and cultural etiquette in Varanasi.
  • Day 1, Monday: Settle into your accommodation in Varanasi. The day will begin with an introduction to the sacred city and its importance in Hindu spirituality. Volunteers will start their work by assisting with cleaning and environmental initiatives along the banks of the Ganga River or with temple restoration efforts. Evening free time will include attending the Ganga Aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, a spiritually enriching experience.
  • Days 2-3, Tuesday & Wednesday: Volunteers will work in the morning on conservation efforts such as Ganga River clean-up projects or assisting local temples with restoration activities. The afternoons will be dedicated to cultural immersion activities, including learning about the history of Varanasi, its famous ghats, and local art forms such as Banarasi silk weaving. Evenings will include participating in cultural programs or classical music performances at the ghats.
  • Day 4, Thursday: Volunteers will continue with their conservation or restoration work in the morning. The afternoon will involve exploring the city’s temples, such as the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and understanding the significance of Varanasi as a pilgrimage site. Volunteers will also engage in community outreach programs, including teaching local children about the history and culture of Varanasi or providing assistance at healthcare camps.
  • Day 5, Friday: Volunteers will assist in the preparation of the daily rituals at a local temple or shrine. This day may include assisting in the ceremonial rituals or learning more about the spiritual significance of Varanasi. In the evening, there will be an opportunity to experience traditional spiritual practices such as chanting and meditation with local spiritual guides.
  • Days 6-7, Saturday & Sunday: Weekends are free for volunteers to explore Varanasi and the surrounding areas. Volunteers can:
    • Explore the Ghats: Take a boat ride along the Ganga River at sunrise or sunset, visiting famous ghats such as Assi Ghat and Manikarnika Ghat.
    • Visit Sarnath: The site where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon after enlightenment. This Buddhist pilgrimage site is located just a short distance from Varanasi.
    • Explore Ancient Temples: Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Annapurna Temple, and Sankat Mochan Temple.
    • Shop for Traditional Handicrafts: Visit local markets to shop for Banarasi silk sarees, brassware, and other traditional handicrafts.

What’s Included:
  • Accommodations: Volunteers will stay in traditional guesthouses or homestays, offering comfortable and authentic living experiences in Varanasi. Rooms may be shared or private depending on availability.
  • Food: Vegetarian meals (3 meals per day, Monday-Friday) featuring local Varanasi cuisine.
  • Transfers: Airport transfers from Varanasi to accommodations are included, as well as local transport for program activities.

Volunteer Age Requirements:
  • Minimum age: 18. Volunteers aged 16-17 may apply with parental consent.
  • Families with children over 12 years old are welcome to join the program.
