Gain international experience in medicine as you intern in one of the most unforgettable places in the world! Explore India in your free time or simply seep in the culture through markets and interactions with local community members.
Program Highlights:
Your Schedule at a Glance (Minimum two-week commitment):
Arrival Day, Sunday: Arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). You will be picked up at the airport and transferred to the intern house in New Delhi. Spend the day settling into your new home and acclimatizing to what can sometimes be a great culture shock, that comes with being in India.
Day 1, Monday: Join an orientation which will help you become familiar with the local culture and customs, transportation, health and safety, as well as the Hindi language. Spend the rest of the day experiencing the sites, sounds and smells of India, or take some time to rest before beginning your internship the next day.
Day 2-5, Tuesday-Friday: You will be teamed up with a doctor or medical professional and shadow them, completing minor tasks, usually between 9am-5pm. These times can however vary, depending on the schedule of the physician and the placement workload. Depending upon the working schedule of the paired doctor and area of the hospital an intern is placed, the times and days of work may fluctuate. Your patience and flexibility with these schedule and time shifts is greatly appreciated.
Day 6-7, Saturday-Sunday: Enjoy a few days of rest before another busy week of internship, or take the opportunity to explore India’s Golden Triangle and other close by regions
Remaining Weeks: The remaining weeks will follow a similar schedule of volunteering Monday-Friday and having Saturday-Sunday free. Use your weekends to learn more about Indian culture, visit holy sites such as the Taj Mahal in Agra, or perhaps go on a trekking trip in the Himalayas. Departure is on Saturday.
