See the real India as you spend three weeks volunteering and exploring one of the most colorful countries in the world. Have a positive impact on the next generation by working with disadvantaged children, before you go hiking, driving and sightseeing through some of India’s most famous places.

Program Highlights:

Your Schedule at a Glance (Three-week commitment): 

Arrival Day, Saturday: Arrive at New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). You will be picked up at the airport and taken to your accommodation in Delhi. Take the time to relax, meet the other volunteers and acclimatise to the culture shock. Welcome to India!

Day 1, Sunday: Your first day will begin with an orientation to the tour and a visit to some of Delhi’s most famous sites such as India Gate and the Lotus Temple. Finish the day with an authentic Indian meal for your welcome dinner.
 
Days 2-6, Monday-Friday: Today you will begin your volunteer work, working with street children. Your tasks will include playing games with the kids, teaching them basic literacy, providing them with basic care and most importantly giving them some much needed love. On Thursday evening you will also be treated to a visit to the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, which will be followed by a spectacular water show.
  
Day 7, Saturday: Enjoy a free day in Delhi, doing further sightseeing, going shopping or taking another city tour, before boarding an air-conditioned bus to your next destination: Palampur.  

Day 8, Sunday: After arriving in Palampur, take some time to rest, before going on a brief tour of the town. Your coordinators will also introduce you to the next part of your volunteering journey, before giving you some more time to rest.  

Days 9-13, Monday-Friday: Your week of volunteering will begin today and include similar tasks as those in Delhi, with the addition of helping out with construction, painting and maintenance of the center. Enjoy your time volunteering outdoors as you will have the greatest view there ever was, the Himalayas themselves. During your spare time, visit the local monasteries and temples, tea gardens and markets, to get to know the Indian culture better.

Day 14, Saturday: Today your trekking in the Himalayas adventure begins, as you go to Triund which is around a 10 km long trekking route. At the end of your trip you will get the magnificent views of the beautiful snow clad Himalayan mountain range. 

Day 15, Sunday: For the second day of your trek, you will make your way back to Dharamsala, where you will have time to rest or you can visit the Dalai Lama Temple. 

Day 16, Monday: After your time in the Himalayas you will come back to urban life in the city of Amritsar. Visit Jallianwala Bagh (Martyrs’ Memorial) and the Golden Temple in the day and also see the Temple again at night, as it is illumined with a honey golden light. Spend the rest of the day visiting markets and trying local delicacies.

Day 17, Tuesday: Make your way to Agra, via Delhi and get to see the changing landscapes of India as you travel by rail and by bus.

Day 18, Wednesday: Visit the famous Taj Mahal today and marvel at one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Afterwards, you will make your way to Jaipur, where you will have the rest of the day to rest.

Day 19, Thursday: Spend another day sightseeing as you visit the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) for a photo stop and the beautiful Rajasthani City Palace. In the evening you will be treated to a cultural event of folk dancing and puppet show.

Day 20, Friday: Spend your last day on the tour visiting the Amber Fort, which is located on the beautiful lake Maota, before returning to Delhi for last minute sightseeing and shopping.

Day 21, Saturday: Say goodbye to your new friends and to India, as your tour ends this morning.

India is the seventh largest country in the world and home to more than a billion people. It beautifully blends the past and the present together which can be seen in its rich culture, multiple religions and magnificent architecture. The landscape is quite diverse, ranging from the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains to jungles and beaches. 
Throughout the three-week stay, volunteers will travel to many of India's fascinating cities and most popular attractions including:  
  • Delhi's famous India Gate, Swami Narayan Temple, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple and Humayun's Tomb
  • The Golden Triange Tour, which includes a trip to the Taj Mahal and Jaipur's famous Johary Bazar
  • Amristar's Golden Temple, Dalai Lama Temple and nearby waterfalls in Bhagsu
  • A two-day trek in the Himalayan Mountains
Please Note: Some monuments require entry fees that you are required to pay for directly. Therefore, it is recommended to have about $50 USD on hand when traveling. 

Participants will have the chance to work with street children  in Delhi and Palampur.The main focus for the volunteers will be to provide love and care for the children while engaging them in informal education and fun games. Volunteers will also help create a more home-like and enjoyable atmosphere by decorating the facilities and painting rooms. These small improvements will make a huge difference for the children that call these places home.

Daily activities can include:
  • Informal English lessons and help with homework
  • Fun and creative activities including drawing and coloring
  • Playing recreational games with the children
  • Painting rooms or creating decorations to brighten up the rooms
Volunteers will work 5-6 hours per day at the childcare centers.
Internet
Internet:  In most cases, free WiFi is available at volunteer accommodations.
Laundry
Laundry:  No laundry service is available, but volunteers can use local laundry facilities for an additional fee.
Accommodations
Accommodations:  Volunteers will stay in either a volunteer house or guest house during volunteering and hotels when travelling. Rooms will be shared with other volunteers of the same gender. The accommodations will be basic but have electricity and hot water.
Food:  Breakfast and dinner are provided Monday - Saturday

This add-on provides even more adventure through the opportunity to explore the Western Ghats.
