Itinerary:

Day 1, Saturday: Adventurers will be picked up from Galle early in the morning and enjoy a scenic, four-hour drive to the hotel in Yala. After check-in, travelers will embark on a jeep safari in a National Park to spot amazing wildlife

Day 2, Sunday: Adventurers will transfer to the highlands of Sri Lanka for a visit to the Nine Arches Bridge, which is a railway marvel from the Colonial Era. Participants will then go on a 45-minute trek up to Little Adam's Peak. Participants have the option to skip both of these and instead join a four-hour hike up Ella Rock or visit a local tea factory. Free evening in Ella.

Day 3, Monday: Participants will watch the sunrise from a prime location before taking a five-hour train ride to Hatton. Following lunch, travelers will transfer 90 minutes to a riverside eco lodge, where they can enjoy a dip in the Kelani River before dinner. 

Day 4, Tuesday: Following an early breakfast, adventurers can choose to take part in white water rafting (for an additional fee). All travelers will then depart for the cultural, central city of Kandy and will have the option to choose between visiting the Royal Botanical Gardens (for an additional fee) or the local craft fair. In the evening participants will tour the Sacred Temple of Tooth Relic which used to be a part of the Kingdom of Kandy Palace and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 5, Wednesday: Following breakfast, adventurers will head to Balan Village for a historical walking tour, followed by a visit to a local spice garden to learn about spices and Ayurveda. Participants have the option in the afternoon to visit the Golden Cave Temple, which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and a well-preserved temple complex within the caves. (Entrance fee not included.)

Day 6, Thursday: Adventurers will head to Lion’s Rock, an ancient archaeological fortress before traveling through Sigiriya to explore the city and climb a summit to palace ruins. Participants will head to the local market before lunch and then transfer to the beach city of Negombo for a free evening. Adventurers can enjoy time at the beach and pool or do some last-minute shopping. 

Day 7, Friday: Participants will be taken to Colombo International Airport for departure following breakfast and check-out.


Please note: This schedule may altered and/or be amended, depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances. If the hotels shown are not available at the time for any reasons, they will be replaced with alternative accommodations of similar quality.

Important Note:  This tour can be done alone, without a volunteer program preceding it, in which case participants must arrive in Galle the day before the tour begins and meet the group. Airport pickup and accommodations can be arranged for an additional fee.

Sri Lanka is a small, teardrop shaped island in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of India, with a population of about 18.5 million people. This road trip takes participants from the bustling city of Kandy down to the Coral Coast, to the beach areas and city of Galle. Kandy is one of the most scenic cities in Sri Lanka and lies amidst the rolling hills of the Kandy Plateau. It is home to the famous Temple of the Tooth, a sacred Buddhist temple. Galle is a beautiful area in southern Sri Lanka that is surrounded by lush greenery and is in close proximity to world-class beaches! Galle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, complete with Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient religious buildings, museums and more. Galle is also quite trendy, and is home to cafes, fashionable shops and boutique hotels.

Laundry:  Participants should expect to wash clothes by hand.
Accommodations
Accommodations:  Participants will stay in shared rooms with two other participants in various hotels and a riverside eco lodge. Upgrades to double or private rooms are available for an additional fee.
Food:  Two meals and one liter of drinking water are provided each day.
