Join a two-week volunteer and tour experience in Thailand! Work with sea turtles, assist with community aid initiatives and explore the highlights of this fascinating country!
Program Highlights:
Arrival Day, Saturday: Arrive into Phuket International Airport (HKT). Volunteers will be picked up from the airport and taken to the project location of Ban Nam Khem. Participants will settle into their new home and receive a welcome presentation and project orientation.
Training Day, Sunday: You will receive training from experienced staff members on the program. There may also be the opportunity to visit a local market with the team.
Week 1
Monday - Friday: Volunteer work begins. As a volunteer you can expect to get involved in basic renovation work (painting, decorating, basic house improvements) as well as turtle research and conservation. Here you will be helping in the turtle center by scrubbing the tanks to ensure that the turtles have a clean environment to live in, washing the turtles with an antibacterial solution to reduce levels of infection, and also applying antifungal and antibacterial treatments to any wounds that the turtles may have. You can also expect to take part in beach clean ups as well as enjoy Thai language classes.
Saturday - Sunday: Weekends are free; an opportunity for volunteers to rest before the next week of adventure begins!
Week 2
Monday - Friday:
There will be an itinerary set by the field team members for your week of adventure; they will be there with you every step of the way!
We will send you your set itinerary prior to your arrival. Examples of activities you may be involved in include visiting Khao Sok National Park and the stunning Cheow Larn Lake, visiting local beaches in Kao Lak area and exploring the local area (sea kayaking, swimming, boat tour, exploring caves, beach time.) There will be loads of opportunities to buy souvenirs.
Possible evening activities may include visiting local markets, and partaking in cooking classes.
Day 15, Saturday: Volunteers will be taken to Phuket International Airport for departure.

For parents: Because this project is specifically designed for teenage volunteers, there is a high level of supervision by well-trained staff and conservation experts.GoEco can recommended specific airlines and flights to group participants together. Recommended airlines will offer a chaperone service, airline-provided flight chaperones who will accompany volunteers on their flight from their city of departure to their program. This chaperone service must be arranged with the airline itself, and the cost varies by airline.

Situated along the Andaman coast, Phang Nga is a spectacular region renowned for its magnificent scenery and geographical wonders of limestone rock formations, jutting out from beneath the sea and sunken caverns. Its clear waters and abundance of marine life make it a top destination for snorkelers and scuba divers, and its enchanting beaches also appeal to those looking for a laid-back atmosphere where cultures melt together. A short bus ride from the base in Ban Nam Khem, Phang Nga Bay is probably most famous for some of its many tiny islands including Koh Tapu where the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” was shot.
During the second half of this program, volunteers will get to explore Thailand’s southern region, including its jungle, rural villages and more beach areas.

Internet:
Volunteers can use the Internet in nearby cafes. WiFi may be available for an extra fee in the hotels.
Laundry:
Laundry services are available at the hotel in Phang Nga for an additional fee. Volunteers can choose to hand wash their clothes.
Accommodations:
Volunteers will stay in shared, single-gender hotel rooms with shared bathrooms where hot water is available.
Food:
Three meals per day are included. Please inform us in advance of any dietary needs. Gluten-free diets may be difficult to accommodate while traveling during Week Two.
