Sigatoka is most well-known for being a part of Fiji's Coral Coast - a beautiful area on the west side of Fiji lines with beachside  resorts and hotels. Sand dunes are also nearby, as well as the Kulukulu village and Kula Eco Park, making this a lively tourist destination. This area is also known as Fiji's adventure capital, since there are thrilling activities to join such as four-wheeling adventures, surfing beaches and even the chance to feed sharks!

Fiji's residents are extremely multicultural, with an increasing number of Indo-Fijian, Australians and New Zealanders. Aside from the locals, the capital frequently hosts a number of Asian sailors on leave and university students from around the Pacific.
There is a deep appreciation for the international volunteers who come to assist teachers in kindergarten classrooms. As a volunteer, you will be placed at one of the many kindergartens in need of assistance, to help care for the children, alleviating the daily pressures on the teacher. Your duties as a volunteer may include:
  • Teaching basic English
  • Planning activities to help with English skills
  • Playing games with the children
  • Organizing dynamic age appropriate activities
  • Developing students’ conversational skills
A typical day: You can expect to volunteer around five hours a day, Monday to Friday. Your days will begin at 9:00 AM with English lessons and recreational activities. After lunch, you will help with the lesson plan for the next day. Weekends are free.

Holidays: During some holidays, the children will be out of school and the project will not be running as scheduled. During this time, volunteers will be primarily involved in cleaning tasks, renovations and leading the Kid's Club.

Please Note: it is not possible to book any dates which overlap with the full school closure. Two weeks before examinations, some of the schools may not have regular classes, as the students will be busy with revision. The volunteers will then be responsible for helping with revision or join in the renovation and cleaning project.
